2018 Ford Expedition vs. 2017 Ford Expedition

Each year, vehicles get updated from the previous year. It’s always important to look at each new model year of vehicle to see what changes you are getting. Sometimes there are just a few new updates and other times a vehicle undergoes significant changes for a new model year.

Let’s take a look at the 2018 Ford Expedition and see what changed from 2017. First, we will take a look at the exterior styling, then the performance and finally, the interior.

Exterior Styling

The outside of the Expedition has experienced some significant changes for 2018. The entire body of the Expedition was made from lighter material. A lot of the steel was replaced with strong but light aluminum. The 2018 Expedition is 300 pounds lighter than the 2017 Expedition.

This lightweight exterior also has some styling changes. The 2018 Expedition has a new C-shaped headlight design with the headlights being integrated into the front grille. The exterior looks more aggressive with a more angular hood and a larger grille. There are also C-shaped taillights and a larger rear bumper for the back of the Expedition.

Performance

The expedition is getting some big changes in performance as well. The lower weight will make for better performance, but the Expedition is also getting updated engine options. The 3.5-liter turbo V6 engine will give you a 10-horsepower increase on the XL, XLT and Limited trim levels. This means you will get 375-horepower on this engine. On the Platinum trim, that horsepower will increase to 400, which is more than a lot of competitors.

The transmission is also getting a step up with a 10-speed automatic replacing the previous six-speed transmission. All of this, along with the fact that the Expedition is 300 pounds lighter will give you increased performance and better towing. The towing capacity for the 2018 Expedition is 9,300 pounds. To go with this great capacity, you will also get Pro Trailer Backup Assist to help you haul with confidence.

Not only is the 2018 Expedition lighter, but the engine is stronger. This looks to be a vehicle worth looking out for!

Interior Features

The interior of the Expedition has also gotten an upgrade. You will now find 11 separate ports to plug in your devices including two USB ports and 12V outlets in the third row, so no one is left out.

The 2018 Expedition will also give you easier access to the third row with new seats that slide forward and then flip up. Also, in the trunk, you will see a new flip-out floor tray. This tray is designed to turn into a table to give you added convenience.

Some vehicles don’t see any major changes from year to year, but the 2018 Ford Expedition has been revamped for 2018 including a more stylish exterior, a lighter weight, a stronger performance and updates to the interior. The 2018 Ford Expedition should be high on your list of SUVs to look out for this year.
