2018 Ford Fusion Changes vs. 2017 Ford Fusion

2018 Ford Fusion ChangesWhen you think of mid-range sedans by an American car company, the Ford Fusion is probably near the top of your list. The Ford Fusion was first introduced to us in 2006, and the brand has only continued to build on what it started.

Unfortunately, if you are looking for major differences between the 2017 model and the 2018 model, there aren’t many. But, you’ve still got an extremely comfortable, luxurious, competitive sedan that ranks up there with the Hyundai Sonata, Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.

Let’s take a look at what this car does offer.

Boost Base Trims with Available Packages

You’ve got your standard base models in the S and SE. They both give you some of the general options you see in most cars nowadays. You get tilt-steering, 60/40 split rear seats, Bluetooth connectivity, USB and auxiliary ports and app integration. The step up from that, and you get what Ford calls its “Appearance Package.” This package brings you 18” alloy wheels and a leather wrapped steering wheel.

The SE model offers the “Luxury Package.” These options are made to make you feel fancy since it’s got leather interior, keyless ignition and entry, auto-dim rear view mirror, a 1.5-liter engine and an auto start/stop engine that helps you save on fuel. What’s that you say? That isn’t fancy enough for you? Oh, well then you can opt for the “Technology Package” that really ups the connectivity of the car to the driver. You get rear parking sensors, dual zone climate control, an eleven-speaker sound system, and Ford’s Sync3 Tech - which offers voice control, and a second USB port (for charging purposes).

Just when you thought it wouldn’t get better, it does. Behold, the “Titanium Package.” Access everything in the SE models, but add a 2.0-liter engine (with 240 horsepower), a 12-speaker Sony sound system, a power adjusted passenger seat and HD radio.

And if you’re going the extra mile, you should consider the “Driver Assist Package” for the SE and Titanium models - with options such as high beam control, a heated steering wheel, optional sunroof, auto wipers, blind spot warning and lane departure warning/lane keep assistance.

There isn’t any way that this car could get much better, right? Wrong.

Just when you thought that there wasn’t anything else that could be added to this car to make it more powerful, enter the “Platinum” and “V6 Sport” editions. “Platinum” gives you all the above specs, in addition to leather trim, power adjusted steering and a unique grille insert. But the V6 Sport? You get everything included with the SE and Luxury Packages. Add in a turbocharged V6 engine, all-wheel drive, leather and suede upholstery, a 9-speaker audio system and 19” alloy wheels. You can also opt for a “V6 Upgrade,” which combines the features from the Titanium and Drive Assist packages, or any of the stand-alone options.

Pair any of those options with the Fusion’s 5-star safety and crash test rating, plus the overall optimal driveability of the car, and you have one awesome mid-sized sedan. It’s even been called a “Renaissance car,” with all the options it can carry, plus an engine similar to Ford’s own F-150. That’s right. A truck engine in a family-sized sedan. You really can’t go wrong with this car.
