2019 Ford Edge ST vs. 2018 Ford Edge Sport

A lot of us want a truly powerful performance from our vehicle. We want our driving experience to be fun and thrilling instead of slow and dull. Because of this, Ford has been developing an ST-line of vehicles. The “ST” stands for sport technologies, so these vehicles will add more performance and sport touches to give you a more enjoyable driving experience.

Ford has developed ST trims for a few of its models already, but for 2019, Ford is adding an ST trim to the Ford Edge. This will make it the first Ford SUV to carry the ST badging. What makes a Ford able to receive that ST badging? Well, the Ford Performance team will get the chance to make some changes to this vehicle, which will ramp up its sportiness and performance.

However, Ford already had a Sport trim for the Ford Edge in 2018. Will the ST trim be different? Yes! The 2019 Ford Edge ST will be different than the 2018 Ford Edge Sport. Exterior Differences

The 2019 Ford Edge ST and the 2018 Ford Edge Sport will have some differences on the exterior. The 2018 Ford Edge Sport has some specific styling features like a Piano Black grille with Magnetic surround. This vehicle also has a dual exhaust tip with polished stainless steel and trapezoidal fascia integrated.  

The 2019 Ford Edge ST will have some differences in style and features on the exterior. For example, the 2019 ST will feature a wider and darker mesh grille, side skirts and bigger exhaust outlets. This vehicle will also have available 21-inch wheels. The Edge ST will also give you an exclusive Ford performance blue color option along with three new interior palettes, so you can update your style.

All Ford Edge models will be updated for 2019 as well with added exterior styling. This will include a new front design and a more modern and athletic stance. The 2019 Edge will also feature standard bi-LED headlamps as well as a redesigned hood that gives this vehicle a wider look.

As you can see, the exterior styling will on the 2019 Edge ST will be a bit different than that of the 2018 Ford Edge Sport.

Interior and Technology

Next, let’s take a look at the differences in interior features and technology between these two vehicles. The 2018 Ford Edge Sport has some great technology like the SYNC 3 infotainment system as well as safety features like blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and more. This vehicle also has some style with features like leather-trimmed seats with perforated suede cloth inserts and aluminum pedal covers.

For the 2019 ST, there will be some updated technology and styling, so some of the features will look different in the 2019 Edge ST than the 2018 Edge Sport. For example, all 2019 Edge models will give you a standard built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. This hotspot will be able to support up 10 different devices.

There will also be some new safety features on the Ford Edge for the 2019 model year. These will include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane-centering assist, a post-collision braking system to prevent the car from rolling after a collision, and evasive steering assist to help a drive steer around slow or stopped vehicles.

The ST will also stand out from the Sport because of its Ford performance sill plate and ST badging on the steering wheel as well as black leather seats.

The 2018 Ford Edge Sport has some great style and technology, but you will get even more added to the 2019 Ford Edge ST.

Performance

Now, let’s take a look at the performance differences between the 2019 Ford Edge ST and the 2018 Ford Edge Sport.

For the 2018 Ford Edge Sport, you will have a 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost engine. It is a lightweight twin-turbo engine, but it delivers a powerful performance. This engine will give you 315-horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.

The 2019 Ford Edge ST gives you the same engine, the 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost, but with a slightly more powerful performance. The upgraded engine gives you 335-horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, making it more capable than ever. This vehicle will also have Ford’s eight-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.

Other differences between these two vehicles include the fact that the ST features a model-specific suspension tuning. This trim also gives you an optional performance brake package. The 2019 Ford Edge ST will also give you a Sport mode. This offering gives you a better throttle response, it allows for more aggressive shifting and it has a reconfigured digital instrument cluster.

When you start driving the 2019 Ford Edge ST, you will be able to tell the difference in performance. Ford’s performance team has given this vehicle more horsepower, an upgraded suspension and transmission and a sport mode.

Which is Right for You?

As you learned above, there are some pretty significant differences between the 2018 Ford Edge Sport and the 2019 Ford Edge ST.

On the exterior, you have some styling differences as well as features like square dual exhaust tips. As for the inside, the 2019 Ford Edge ST will have some upgraded technology like a standard Wi-Fi hotspot as well as some new safety features like adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane-centering assist.

Finally, we took a look at the performance differences. The 2019 ST gives you more horsepower and torque than the 2018 Sport. It also gives you a specific sport mode. 

The 2018 Ford Edge Sport is a great vehicle. It you want a solid performance and a lower starting price, the 2018 Ford Edge Sport could be the vehicle for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for that extra performance and updated technology, you will want to go with the 2019 Ford Edge ST. 

Both of these options are good ones, you just have to decide which one is the right one for you!
