New Features, Safety, and Incredible Engine Options

This year, even the entry level Escapes are reaping the benefit of features traditionally reserved for higher trim levels, like automatic climate control, single button parking brake, and seamless integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new generation also introduced a new engine option. All told, there is much to celebrate in this crossover at Ford dealers in NH

While Reader's Digest recognized Ford as its readers "Most Trusted SUV Brand," the Escape itself is gathering some of its own accolades; namely, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Overall 5-Star Crash Safety Rating.

In addition to a new engine option, the new Escape features enhancements like upgraded exterior aesthetics, and enhanced safety features like adaptive cruise control with forward collision alert, lane departure prevention, and drowsy driver warning alerts.

Engine options total three - the 2.5-liter featuring iVCT (independent variable cam design), the 1.5-liter EcoBoost iVCT - offering the most fuel efficiency, and the 2.0-liter Ecoboost, complete with twin-scroll turbocharged technology. These EcoBoost engines not only conserve fuel and save money, they utilize Auto Start-Stop, which curbs carbon emissions.

Three Levels of the 2018 Ford Escape

S Trim

Entry level Escape models are dubbed S, are commonly reserved for commercial fleets, and come equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, backed by 168 horses and 170 lb-ft of torque.

Operated by a six-speed automatic transmission, the S is exclusively a front-wheel drive vehicle. Features found standard in the Escape S include cruise control, LED taillights, automatic headlights, air-conditioning, height-adjustable driver seat, 4.2-inch display, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, 60/40-split folding and reclining back seat, MyKey parental controls, rearview camera, six-speaker sound system with CD player and USB port, Sync tech interface - able to integrate with AppLink smartphones, all atop 17-inch steel wheels.

SE Trim

The mid-level SE includes extra bells and whistles, most notably the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, generating 179 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, along with dual-zone automatic climate control, foglights, rear privacy glass, keyless entry, paddle shifters mounted to the steering wheel, eight-way power adjustable driver seat - which includes power lumbar adjustment, center armrest in back seat, enhanced cloth interior materials, satellite radio, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Optional equipment on the SE: Flex more muscle by opting for the AWD 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, generating 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. Choose the Technology Package, known as the Equipment Group, and enhance your SE with rear parking sensors, LED daytime running lights, 110-volt power outlet, nine-speaker sounds system with two USB ports, roof rails, blind-spot monitoring - including rear cross-traffic alert, along with the enhanced Sync 3 technology featured on an 8-inch display.

Absolutely non-negotiable for drivers in challenging climates, the SE's Cold Weather package delivers a windshield de-icer, heated seats up front, and a 110-volt power outlet, assuming the Technology Package isn't installed. Up the comfort factor with the SE Leather Comfort option, which provides leather upholstery and an eight-way power passenger seat, complete with two-way power lumbar adjustment. Additional enhancements to these packages include the hands-free power liftgate (though the Technology Package is requisite), remote engine start capability and larger, 18-inch wheels.

Titanium Trim

Drivers who are really serious when it comes to having the ultimate option choose the Titanium trim at our New Hampshire Ford dealer. Blending the best of the SE available options, the Titanium offers a foot sensor to activate the power liftgate.

Add to that the option of the 2.0-liter engine, along with ambient interior lighting, automatic dimming rearview mirror, driver-seat memory settings, keyless entry and ignition, 10-speaker audio system with HD radio from Sony, the Titanium also provides the available adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning system.

Drivers in need of technology enhancements will benefit from the Technology Package - Equipment Group 301A, which includes a heated steering wheel, automatic high beams, complemented by automatic windshield wipers, xenon headlights, a helpful automated parking feature for both parallel and perpendicular parking chargers, front and side parking sensors, and lane departure warning with intervention.

For a sportier drive, both the SE and Titanium can be enhanced by the Sport Appearance package, which completes the Escape with black exterior trim, black 19-inch wheels, leather upholstery accents, and LED daytime running lights. Additional options include a navigation system and a panoramic sunroof.

For even more choice challenges, drivers will have to consider the Ford Escape's sophisticated styling and stunning exterior color palette. Depending on personal aesthetic, there are pop colors and professional hues to satisfy every personal style, including the following shades: Ruby Red, Shadow Black, White Gold, Magnetic (a gray), Blue Lightning, Canyon Ridge (rust/brown tone), White Platinum, Ingot Silver, and Oxford White.
