The Most Capable Heavy Duty Pickup

Both the Ford F-250 and Ford F-350 were treated to a total redesign this year. Available in three configurations, drivers can choose between the regular, extended cab (Super Cab), or crew cab body styles. Once a configuration is chosen, drivers will have to determine which of the five available trim levels best suits their daily driving needs and preferences. There is the entrant XL, followed by the XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and absolute premium Platinum model.

Depending on configuration and trim level, the 2019 Ford F-250 and F-350 can be equipped with a 6.75-foot or 8-foot bed.

Performance

Known for outstanding performance and capability, Ford Super Duty trucks really set the bar for the segment. Offering two engine options, both the Ford F-250 and Ford F-350 represent the perfect partners on the job site. The question is, how big is the job at hand?

Engines

Standard operation for both the Ford F-250 and Ford F-350 comes from the 6.2-liter V8 engine, generating 385 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. Optional performance is provided by the 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8, capable of 440 horsepower and 925 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come mated with a six-speed automatic transmission, with rear-wheel drive standard and four-wheel drive optional.

While the Ford F-250 makes the zero to sixty mph dash in 6.7 seconds, with top speeds recorded at 98 mph, the F-350 comes in right behind, sprinting the zero to sixty mph in 7.2 seconds at top speeds of 97 mph.

Towing

The Ford F-250 boasts a towing capacity of 12,300-13,300 pounds, while the Ford F-350 dips slightly to 12,000-13,100 pounds, owing to the different curb weights between the two; the Ford F-250 is rated between 5,683-6,695 pounds, with the Ford F-350 coming in at 5,909-6,989 pounds.

Payload

Trim Level Options - Ford F-250

The five trim levels available in the Ford F-250 include the entrant XL, the XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and high-end Platinum. For the sake of comparison, we’ll compare the base with the top-tier Platinum model.

Starting with the entry-level XL, drivers should expect standard equipment like front tow hooks, a black grille and matching black bumpers, intermittent wipers, removable locking tailgate and tailgate lift assistance, manual front locking hubs - exclusive to four-wheel-drive models - automatic on/off headlights, 2.5-inch trailer hitch receiver, vinyl interior and vinyl floor covering, manually adjustable telescoping towing mirrors, dual glovebox, overhead console with extra storage compartments (exclusive to extended and crew cab configurations), tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, manual door locks and windows, 17-inch steel wheels, 60/40-split back seat, and a 40/20/40-split seats up front.        

On the other end of the spectrum, the Platinum trim - exclusively in crew cab configuration - affords extra bells and whistles like adaptive steering, power running boards, remote tailgate release with built-in tailgate step, blind-spot monitoring, complemented by rear cross-traffic alert, LED taillights, LED headlights, and LED foglights, along with 20-inch alloy wheels.  

Pricing

Depending on configuration, the Ford F-250 ranges in price with the regular cab priced to start at $33,150; the super cab priced to start at $35,485; and the crew cab priced to start at $36,765.

Trim Level Options - Ford F-350

Total trim level options match those found in the Ford F-250: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum. Given that the Ford F-250 and F-350 share much of the same equipment in the base XL and high-end Platinum models, the following represents the midrange offerings afforded by the ever-popular Lariat model, along with a little Western flair found in the King Ranch trim.

Building off the equipment offered by both the XL and XLT trims, the Lariat boosts the benefits via features like upgraded mirrors throughout, power sliding back window, dual-zone automatic climate control, parking sensors in back, leather interior to match the leather-wrapped steering wheel, 8-inch center touchscreen display, a pair of 110-volt power outlets, foglights, enhanced Sync 3 infotainment system, 10-speaker Sony sound system, two USB ports, and bright-finished 18-inch alloy wheels.

For those wannabe and real life cowboys, the King Ranch is where you’ll want to focus your attention. Available only on crew-cabs, the King Ranch comes equipped with rain-sensing wipers, alloy wheels, body-color grille, LED box lighting, keyless entry and ignition, enhanced leather interior materials, driver memory settings, power tilt-and-telescoping heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated seats up front, automatic high beams, and navigation.

Pricing

Depending on configuration, the Ford F-350 is priced as follows: the regular cab starts at $33,705; the super cab starts at $36,045, and the crew cab tops out at an initial MSRP of $37,305.

Not to be outdone by the Ford F-250, the F-350 also nailed a perfect five out of five stars from Car and Driver, rated the #1 Ultra Heavy Duty Pickup Truck.
