Interior

The most talked about difference on the 2015 F150 is that Ford changed the body to an aluminum construction, making it less expensive to produce, but also lighter and more enjoyable to drive. It gives the illusion of a tough truck, and nothing more. With its tall grille and beveled hood, air flows by and lifts up and over the flush mounted windshield and roof. It has a sliding glass window in the back as an optional feature as well. This series also boasts a low belt line, which allows you, the driver, to connect to the road like never before. The 2015 model brings about more angled shapes, compared to the rounded shapes of older models.

And a great detail for those that use the F150 for work - the controls are all shaped and designed for big-handed operators, making it ideal for those that need a reliable work vehicle with easily accessible buttons. The 2015 F150 also has some great touch screen features, though they are pared down compared to older models, and some of the higher end trim levels feature real wood trim and leather interiors (King Ranch and Platinum options).

There are also three cab styles for your consideration. You have your regular cab with the 2-door option; your Super Cab with rear-hinged rear doors (4-door), and your 4-door Supercrew option. The 4-door Supercrew model has 2 extra inches of space, and boy does size matter on this one! Those two inches are extremely noticeable, as is the fact that the console and arm rests are the same height. Just like the 2017 model, a used 2015 F150 allows you to seat 4 adults comfortably, without compromising on any other interior features. This makes the truck very enjoyable to ride in - especially on long drives.

Speaking of the console, this one packs a punch. It's big enough for you to fit a laptop, and offers plenty of room for phones, drinks, pens and, of course, your business cards. On top of all that, both the driver and passenger get controls, which are easy to access, even while wearing gloves. Although space in the Super Cab models is limited, the Super Crew models have plenty of leg room, under seat storage for all of your tools or toys and entertainment for the kids on long rides.

Safety

The 2015 model offered incomplete crash-test ratings, but featured aerospace-styled construction and extensive advanced safety technology and features. This made it one of the first pickup trucks to earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick, earning 5 stars overall, as well as in the subcategories for its Super Crew models. For comparison, prior model years received 4 stars and Top Safety Pick awards.

Expect standard airbags and stability with second row inflatable seat belts, and additional braking with Curve Control. You also get adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and an in-lane keeping system - which guides the truck back into its lane when it detects you crossing over a double yellow line. It also offers a locking tailgate and tonneau cover to make the bed safer and more secure for storage, plus you can get a 360-degree surround view camera, which is helpful with all types of parking, even for the most experienced driver.

Performance

Don't let the lightweight body fool you though. The towing capacity in the F150 is legit. By adding the aluminum body, Ford trimmed about 500 pounds off the weight of the truck itself, and though the truck is lighter, the ladder-style frame is still made from steel - high-strength steel at that. This hybrid composition makes this truck able to rise to the top. In the 2015 model, the F150 can carry about 3,300 pounds and pull up to 12,200 pounds - depending on the engine. The lightweight body enabled Ford to downsize the engines, giving the trucks a higher towing capacity and payload rates, and a wider body style, which makes it more car-like than truck-like behind the wheel.

On the topic of engines, there are three V6 options, two of which are turbocharged, with one V8 option. The standard engine is a 3.5-liter V6 with 283 horsepower and 255 pounds-feet of torque. With an engine like that, it's no surprise that it has a peak towing capacity of 7,910 pounds with a payload of 1,910 pounds. The turbocharged V6 comes with start/stop standard, and is a lightweight, compact engine which doesn?t push too hard on the max capacity or payload. It has 325 horsepower and 375 pounds-feet of torque. This turbocharged variant has a V8 like capacity of 8,500 pounds, making it worth the upgrade. The top two engines are 5.0-liter V8 engines with 385 horsepower and 387 pounds-feet of torque and a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with 365 horsepower and 420 pounds-feet of torque. Talk about a kick in the pants and a fun drive. All of the engine styles are offered with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Drivers also get a 4x2 and 4x4 option, configured with electric power steering standard, making the response of the vehicles light and quick. A used F150 does an extremely great job impersonating a car, more so than any full-sized pickup truck in its class. The most gas efficient model in both years gets the same EPA-estimated fuel figures all around - 19 city/26 highway/22 mpg combined. This is most likely because of Ford trimming down the body and the fact that it's made from aluminum doesn't hurt either.
