2019 Ford EcoSport vs. 2019 Chevy Trax

Ford EcoSport vs. Chevy Trax

The small SUV is a vehicle segment that seems to be growing in popularity. These vehicles give you power, capability and versatility, but they are still small enough for the city. Below, we are going to take a closer look at two of your small SUV options: the 2019 Ford EcoSport and the 2019 Chevy Trax.

Ford and Chevy are often facing off head-to-head with their vehicles. Today will be no different. We are going to look at a comparison of these vehicles performance and fuel economy, size and interior space, and finally, price and features. Then, you can decide which vehicle wins. Check out the comparison below.

Performance and Fuel Economy

The Ford EcoSport has a couple of different engine options. The engine that comes standard in most trims is the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine with Auto Start-Stop Technology. This engine is turbocharged and has direct injection to give you the power, performance and fuel economy you are looking for. The 1.0-liter engine gives you around 123-horsepower. This engine gives you an estimated 27 city and 29 highway miles per gallon. The other engine option for this vehicle is the 2.0-liter Ti-VCT I-4 engine with Auto Start-Stop Technology. This second engine gives you about 166-horsepower and a little less efficiency with an estimated 23 city and 29 highway miles per gallon.

The 2019 Ford EcoSport also has features like AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control to give you improved traction, responsive handling and increased stopping power to give you more confidence in tough road conditions.

The 2019 Chevy Trax comes standard with 1.4-liter engine that gives you 138-horsepower. This engine is not said to be the most powerful engine. This engine gives you an estimated 25 city miles per gallon and 33 highway miles per gallon. However, if you get the all-wheel drive that gas mileage decreases, giving you 24 city and 30 highway miles per gallon.

Both of these vehicles give you good efficiency and a good performance. The Chevy Trax engine gives you slightly more horsepower than one of the Ford EcoSport options, but the other EcoSport option has it beat in horsepower. The Ford EcoSport averages a few more city miles per gallon than the Chevy Trax and a few less highway miles per gallon. With the performance and fuel economy of these vehicles there is a little bit of give and take. It is important that you decide what factors are most important to you.

Size and Interior Space

Now, let’s take a look at the size and interior space of these two vehicles. The Ford EcoSport is has an overall length of 161.3 inches, while the Chevy Trax has a length of 167.2 inches. This means the Trax is about six inches longer.

However, most of the interior space is pretty similar. Both of these vehicles offer you a front head room of 39.6 inches and a front hip room of 51.6 inches. The Ford EcoSport offers you 2 more inches of front leg room while the Trax gives you 1 more inch of front shoulder room. Both of these vehicles also give you ample second row space with around 38 inches of second row head room, around 36 inches of second row leg room and around 50 inches of shoulder and hip room.

Given that the EcoSport is a few inches shorter, the passenger capacity and space seem to be about the same and in some cases better than the Chevy Trax.

Price and Features

Next, let’s take a look at the prices and features of these two vehicles. The Ford EcoSport S is the base model and it starts off at a price of $19,995. However, there are four different trim options for the EcoSport each with a different price and different features. The base trim gives you the SYNC system, 2 USB ports for charging, MP3 capability with 6 speakers and more. The 2019 EcoSport SE is the next level up. This trim starts at a price of $22,905 and it includes features like a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power moonroof with sunshade, the SYNC 3 infotainment system, satellite radio and more.

The 2019 EcoSport Titanium is the next trim level and it costs $25,740. This trim gives you SYNC Connect, a SYNC Connect Wi-Fi Hotspot, a Voice-activated Touchscreen Navigation, leather-trimmed heated front seats and more. The EcoSport SES starts at a price of $26,740. This vehicle gives you the 2.0-liter Ti-VCT I-4 engine with Auto Start-Stop Technology standard, while the other trims give you the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine.

The Chevy Trax has three trim options the LS, LT, and the Premier. The 2019 Chevrolet Trax LS starts off at a price of $21,995 at it includes features like Chevrolet MyLink with a 7-inch touchscreen and a StabiliTrak electronic stability control system. The LT starts off at a price of $23,895, and it includes premium cloth upholstery, cruise control, satellite radio and remote start. The 2019 Chevrolet Trax Premier starts at a price of $28,290 and it includes leatherette upholstery, heated front seats and a Bose audio system. It also includes safety technology like side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic alert and rear park assist.

As you can see from the prices, the Chevrolet starts out more expensive on the base trim level and it stays more expensive through the higher trim options as well. The base model of the Ford EcoSport might not have quite the technology the base model of the Trax does, but the EcoSport SE has an updated technology system and it is right around the price of the base level Trax LT price. The two higher level trim options in the Ford EcoSport also offer added technology and comfort for prices lower than the Trax Premier.
