All-New Exterior Design

On the back side of the Escape, the liftgate is wider than the previous generation and the taillamps also have a different shape.

New Engine Options

Ford has also made some significant updates under the hood for the 2017 Ford Escape. The Escape formerly featured a 1.6-liter turbo engine, but that has been replaced by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that gives you 179-horsepower.

Another engine option, the 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbo, has received some updates in power and performance from the previous generation. This engine is going from 240-horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque to 245-horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. This change also didn’t result in a significant change in fuel economy; there will only be a one mile per gallon difference.

In addition to the new engines, the 2017 Ford Escape also has the option of an Intelligent 4WD system. This system can send all of the torque to either axle, giving you more capability more difficult driving situations.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Come Standard

The technology was also significantly improved for the 2017 Ford Escape. This vehicle now has the Sync Connect Sync 3 system. This system is a 4G/LTE data connection that includes an 8-inch touchscreen, improved voice recognition and many other features. Sync 3 debuted in 2016 and it is a more intuitive and quick-reacting interface.
