The 2015 F-150: Ford's Bold New Design

The Ford F-150 has been the best-selling, most-trusted pickup truck on the road for decades. It is used by more builders, contractors, landscapers, and workers than any other truck, and that's a fact*. It would not be too much of a stretch to call the F-150 and American icon. With all that in mind, there is huge news for the devoted legions of F-150 fans out there: the 2015 Ford F-150 will future a revolutionary redesign that will make it stronger, lighter, and more fuel-efficient than ever before. The 2015 Ford F-150 will be roughly 700 pounds lighter than the 2014 model; that is a weight reduction of about 10-15% depending on whether it is a regular cab, extended cab, or crew cab. This reduction in weight is achieved through using a combination of high-strength boron steel for the frame, and high-strength aluminum for the body panels. The addition of high-strength aluminum is the result of more than 25 years of research on Ford's part, as well as billions of dollars in investments for new tools, machines, and processes to work with the new material. High-strength aluminum is not your run-0f-the-mill aluminum found in soda cans: this is a material used in aerospace and military designs due to desriable properties such as  its high strength-to-weight ratio and excellent corrosion resistance. In fact, the aluminum body panels will be much more resistant to rust and corrosion that the current steel panels. The 2015 F-150 will also feature several engine options depending on your specific truck needs. The current 5.0L V8 will still be available in the next generation of the F-150, along with two turbocharged options. The current 3.7L turbocharged V6 will be down-sized to a 3.5L turbocharged V6 that will get even better fuel economy. Then there's the real kicker: a 2.7L turbocharged V6 that is expected to achieve about 30 mpg on the highway. The 2.7L V6 is designed specifically for those whose lifestyle demands a full-size pickup, but who does not need to tow a huge boat, for example. The 5.0L V8 and 3.5L V6 turbocharged engines will still deliver the same raw power and torque for towing, hauling, and everything else you need a pickup for. But for those who need a pickup bed and less towing capacity in exchange for truly impressive fuel economy, the 2.7L will be a complete game-changer for the full-size pickup class. *Based on Polk survey data for light-duty pickups

2015 Ford Mustang Revealed

The Ford Motor Company has just revealed the design for the all-new, completely re-designed 2015 Ford Mustang. The 2015 re-design marks an important milestone in Ford's history; it is the 50th anniversary of the iconic Mustang. The Mustang was first released on April 17, 1964 as a 1965 model year car and was an immediate success. Ford's original sales forecasts counted on selling 100,000 Mustangs in the first year, but the Mustang was so well received that 100,000 Mustangs were sold in the first three months! At the end of the first year, ford had sold 418,000 Mustangs, more than four times the 100,000 they initially hoped to sell during that same time. The Mustang was not just an overnight hit for Ford, it even inspired Ford's competitors to launch a series of Mustang-inspired vehicles known as "pony cars." Pony cars are compact, stylish cars with an emphasis on performance and an affordable price tag. Notable pony car competitors that were inspired by the Mustang include the Pontiac Firebird and Chevrolet Camaro (both launched in 1967) and the pony car version of the Dodge Challenger (launched in 1970). During the 50 years since the Mustang's first launch, it has become not just a household name, but an American icon. The designers at Ford had a lot to live up to for the re-design, and they did a great job! The all-new 2015 Mustang has the same sleek, powerful looks that it is known for, along with the sporty performance you would expect from the Mustang nameplate. The 2015 Mustang will have three available engines: a 5.0L V8, a 3.7L V6, and an all-new 2.3L turbocharged EcoBoost engine. The V8 will produce 420 horsepower, and will give the throaty rumble that is just as much a part of the Mustang brand as the tri-bar taillamps. The V6 will produce 300 horsepower, which will deliver terrific get-up-and-go along with nimble handling and great fuel economy. And if you want the sheer good looks of the Mustang along with class-leading fuel efficiency, the 2.3L EcoBoost engine will deliver 305 horsepower and get the best fuel economy of them all. In addition to great performance, the 2015 Mustang will also include the great technology that Ford is known for. Every Mustang built will come with SYNC and MyKey. Selectable drive modes mean you can get the most out of your driving experience by tuning the engine response, transmission, and stability control to be perfect for whatever type of raod you are driving on. From hills, to twists and turns, to straight aways, there is a setting on your Mustang to deliver the optimal driving experience for the road you are on. And to celebrate the legacy of 50 years as an American icon, every 2015 Mustang will come with a badge that reads, "Mustang - Since 1964." To learn more about the 2015 Mustang, come to your NH Ford dealer and speak with one of our product specialists.

How Can Tires Help the Children's Auction?

For the entire month of December, the Irwin Automotive Group will donate $1 for each tire sold to benefit the WLNH Children's Auction. The WLNH Children's Auction is an annual, week-long event held in Laconia that connects individuals and businesses from all over New Hampshire with those in need. The  is run entirely by a team of volunteers who assist with all aspects of auctioning collecting donations, running the auction, and deciding which charities to support. Because the focus of the Children's Auction is to help the children in New Hampshire, the money rasied by the Children's Auction benefits many local charities including The Boys and Girls Club of the Lakes Region, Citizen Santa Fund, St, Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, Greater Lakes Child Advocacy Center, Lakes Region Daycare, and Lakes Region Child Care Services, just to name a few! The Children's Auction was created in 1982 by WLNH radio host Warren Bailey, and raised $2,100 in its first year. It has grown tremendously from that first year both in terms of money raised and in terms of the number of people involved. From its humble beginnings as a handful of generous people in 1982, the Children's Auction has grown to a team of over 700 volunteers today! In 2007, during the Auction's 25th year, it surpassed the $1 million mark for all money raised since 1982. And it gets bigger every year. To put that in perspective, the Auction raised $416,500 in 2012 alone! The Irwin Automotive Group is proud to support this wonderful endeavor and the many charities that benefit from everyone's generosity. So when you come in this month to buy snow tires, you won't just be getting a good deal, you'll be doing some good for the children of New Hampshire!

3 Important Things to Know About Changing Your Oil

Changing your oil regularly is one of the most important things to can do to keep your car or truck running reliably for many years, but many people have questions about oil changes. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions our Ford-certified technicians get. Question #1: Why is changing your oil so important exactly? Answer: Oil's primary function is to protect the engine. It does this by keeping the moving parts lubricated, and by transferring heat away from critical engine parts. Over time, the additives in oil that help it protect the engine break down, and the oil does not work as well, leaving the engine vulnerable to damage. Eventually, sludge will build up in the engine, which can render the engine inoperable. Question # 2: How often should I change my oil? Answer: It depends on what kind of oil you are using. Mineral oil is made from refined crude oil. It is the least expensive options, and works well for most cars for normal use. Generally, it is advisable to change your mineral oil every 3,000 miles or 4 months, whichever comes first. The next step up in terms of both price and performance is a synthetic blend oil. Synthetic blends are the most widely-used type of oil due to their solid performance and mid-range price. Synthetic blends should be changed every 5,000 miles or 5 months. Full sytnthetic oil contains no actual oil. They have incredibly long service lives, and only need to be changed every 10,000 miles or 9 months. Full-synthetic oil gives the best performance available but is also the most expensive option. That being said, it also delivers the best, longest-lasting performance. Question # 3: Do I need to schedule an appointment to have my oil changed? Answer: Nope! We built a separate Quick Lane facility specifically to help our customers get oil changes and tire rotations... no appointments necessary!

Drive 4UR School was a Success

Thank you to everyone who came out last Thursday to help Irwin Ford raise money for the Laconia High School ice hockey team! Irwin Ford was able to partner with Ford through the Drive 4UR School program to raise money for the program by test driving Ford vehicles. The way Drive 4UR School works, is a Ford dealership partners with a local high school and the two work together to raise money for a stated program (band, drama, or in this case, ice hockey). The dealer provides Ford cars, trucks, and SUVs to be test driven, and the participants drive on of these vehicles and fill out a brief exit survey. The Ford Motor Company pays the school $20 for each completed survey for up to 300 surveys. 69 people came out to support the Laconia ice hockey team, raising $1,380 for the team and having a lot of fun in the process. We hope that the next time we have the opportunity to help out Laconia High School, we can break this record. Thank you all for your help!

Why does Parts Deapartment need my VIN?

By John Lobdell, Parts Department In today’s world every thing is VIN (vehicle identification number) specific. Without this seventeen-digit number, we essentially do a lot of guessing on how your vehicle is built and with what options. The very first question we usually ask is, “do you have your VIN?” This is because it saves us all a lot of time if we can enter the VIN and have the computer use the VIN information to decode the year/make/model of your car or truck. Knowing your VIN is vital to keeping our questions as short as possible. It is still possible to look parts up for your vehicle with-out your VIN number but it takes much longer, as we have to the year, make, and model, trim level, and package of your vehicle. By asking these types of question we get to narrow down the many different choices of replacement parts available depending on what you are looking for. All these extra questions make the process take longer for you, and it can even lead to mistakes that would not have been made by using the VIN. When I originally started in this business, we had two different ways of looking up parts for a car our truck. The first method was the old tried-and-true book or catalog. The other method was called a microfiche, which was the cutting edge technology for those times. It was always a good idea to have both methods to work from because if the bulb burned out on the microfiche then we were out of business until we got a new bulb. I personally preferred the books more. Because we did not have online catalog systems, we had to look everything up individually. Today, the computer uses the VIN to break your vehicle down to the specifics of how it was built, which saves us all a lot of time. This computer-based VIN decoding technology allows the Parts Department to serve you faster and more accurately. Even though we can still break the VIN number down manually it is so much faster and easier to allow a machine to do it. So the next time you’re looking for parts, don’t be surprised when we ask for your VIN.
